John William Tolbert, 79, of Lake Charles passed away Thursday August 4, 2016 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Tolbert was born October 11, 1936 to Conley and Ora Tolbert. John was married to his beloved wife Joyce Boudreaux Tolbert for 54 wonderful years. John was part of the 1954 class at Lake Charles High School. Then in 1954 he joined the Navy until 1957 onboard the USS Park County LST 1077 in Norfolk, Virginia. Mr. Tolbert proudly served our nation in Korea. John retired in 1993 from Olin Chemical as a supervisor. John was a duck hunter, and loved mowing the lawn. He had many great trips to Las Vegas too. In his later years he became an avid reader.
John leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Donna Allison (Blaine), and Lisa Marie Fontenot of Lake Charles; five grandchildren, Richard W. Trahan II, Paula Kay LaFleur, Nicole Marie Fontenot, David A. Trahan, John Paul LaFleaur; six great-grandchildren, Waylon, Hailey, Riley, Trey, Alexander, and Ryder.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce M. Tolbert; daughter, Diane LaFleur; brothers, Robert Tolbert and Charles Tolbert; father, Conley William Tolbert; and mother, Ora Columbia Short.
Funeral services will be at 11:00AM Saturday, August 6, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Chaplin Robin Norris will officiate. Visitation will be on Friday, August 5 at 5:00PM until 9:00PM and will resume at 9:00AM Saturday until the start of the service.
