Jon Keith Newell

Jon Keith Newell, 69, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017, in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family. Jon was born in Lake Charles on September 13, 1947, to S.P. “Speedy” and Eva Jane “Janie” Newell.

Jon enjoyed fishing at his camp with his buddies. After retiring from the construction industry, he enjoyed being outside, working in his yard, and gardening. He enjoyed cooking, especially a good gumbo or bar-b-que. Above all else, Jon loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also cared about the many people who worked for him through the years and thought of them as family.

Whether family, friend, or co-worker, three words could be used to describe Jon . . . self-less, dependable and hard working. He was truly a family man.

Jon is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul Wayne Newell and his son Timothy Daniel Newell.

Those left to cherish and honor his memory are his wife of 51 years, Barbara Nicholson Newell and his daughter Dawn and her husband Donald Daigle, who he loved like a son. Jon also leaves: his brothers, Mike (Angela) Newell, David Newell and partner Darryl; and his sisters, Charlotte (Ross) Allured and Madora (Jim) Sutherland. Jon’s grandchildren are: Aaron (Darcy) Richard and their children, Xander, Hayden and Paisley; Amber (Jamie) Seal and their children, Kayley, Jack, Levi and Amelia; Ashton (Andrea) Daigle, and their daughter Stella, Clayton (Hannah) Daigle and son Case; and, Kaley (Logan) Keller and their children Jude and Lucy.

Jon’s family will receive friends on Sunday, April 16, 2017 from 4PM until 8PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8AM until 10AM. Funeral services for Jon will be at 10AM on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Prien Memorial Park Cemetery.
