Iowa - Joseph Doward Brignac, a devoted husband, dad and grandfather died on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at the age of 83. He was born on November 16, 1937 in Mamou, the son of the late Eluide and Hazel (Fontenot) Brignac.
He joined the United States Navy during the Korean war and served on the heavy cruiser, U. S. S. Helena. Joseph was proud of his service to the country.
Joseph was employed as a body man and retired after 28 years from Taussig-Bolton Ford Motor Company.
He supported his grandchildren in their sport activities attending all games when able. He loved to play booray with his friends. Joseph was a terrific gardener and enjoyed his fruit trees and garden.
He is preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years and mother of his children, Nell Brignac; brother, Tilman Brignac.
Survivors are his wife, Margaret Foreman Brignac; sons, John Curtis (Nancy) Brignac; Paul Elliot (Diane) Brignac; Ramona Gail (Jerry) Buquet; Patricia Ann (Marty) Battles; step-daughters, Ann Martin (Steve) and Amy Penney; sisters, Elaine Moerbe (Edmond) and Dolores Miller; grandchildren, Brandy Sawyer (Lee); Kasey Clifton (Colby); Jesey Crafton (Jared); Koby Buquet; Bryce Buquet; Marley Battles; Mason Battles; step-grandchildren, Emily, Isaac & Aaron Burleigh; Kai Penney; Jennifer Burton and 6 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held in St. Raphael Catholic Church on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 11 a.m. The Very Rev. Anthony Fontenot, Celebrant. Visitation will begin in the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., with a rosary recited at 9:30 a.m.
Burial will follow in LeBleu Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa.
