Joseph D. Veillon
Joseph Daily Veillon, 91, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Monday, February 6, 2017.
Born to Alphan and Aminte Smith Veillon in Mamou, Louisiana, Mr. Veillon lived in Lake Charles from the age of seven. He served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He worked for forty-one years at Olin-Mathison Chemical Company as a millwright, retiring in 1986. Mr. Veillon was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles all his life, serving as deacon and touching the lives of many through his walk with the Lord. He had an amazing gift in repairing clocks and could bring back into working condition almost any clock brought to him. His greatest achievement and joy, however, were found in the family that he and his faithful wife raised. He grew up with very little, raising chickens and vegetables with his mom, so being able to feed his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren was extremely important to him.
Those left to cherish his memory are his faithful wife of sixty-eight years, Delourse Barnhill Veillon; three sons, Stephen Veillon (Kathy) of Katy, Texas, Michael Veillon (Kathy) of Lake Charles, and Scott Veillon (Tasha), also of Lake Charles; fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be a 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home. Bro. Jimmy Barnhill will officiate. Interment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P. O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their beloved husband and father to the doctors and staff of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
