Joseph "Joey" Dugas was born on October 20, 1981, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was a fantastic hunter, fisherman, and all-around outdoorsman. Joey graduated from Grand Lake High School in 2000, where he was a member of the baseball team. His athletic skills allowed him to share his love of baseball with the community by coaching Little League, All Stars, and Cajun Baseball teams. Although he was a very skilled man, his most cherished moments were spent with his family. Joey adored his loving wife and best friend, Penni, along with their two beautiful children, Zoiee and Kohen. Nothing meant more to Joey than the love and laughter of his wife and children. Joey was the kind of person who brought joy and laughter wherever he went. He had a playful spirit and loved nothing more than pulling pranks on his friends and family, always keeping everyone on their toes. His special bond with his mother-in-law, whom he called his second mother, was filled with teasing, especially when it came to LSU baseball. But it was his relationship with his father-in-law, his second father, that truly stood out. Joey was always just a phone call away, ready to lend a hand or share a joke, making sure his second father never went without a reason to smile. His presence will be deeply missed, but the warmth of his love and the sound of his laughter will remain in the hearts of those who knew him best. He was the most wonderful son in law that always showed his care and compassion and loving touch to Kenny and Polly- No greater love was shown. Joey had friendships that never waivered and was a genuine and polite as his smile and his handshake. He also loved talking about LSU baseball with anyone who would listen.
Joey is survived by his wife of 20 years, Penni Dupont Dugas; his children, Zoiee and Kohen; his father, Jack Dugas (Donna); his mother, Gail Thomas Fitzgerald (Kirby); his sister, Dana Sonnier (Josh); his second set of parents, Kenny and Polly Dupont; his siblings-in-law, Shannon and Susan Dupont, Daena and Chuck McDaniel, and Tim and Missy Dupont; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Margaret Thomas; his grandfather, John Thomas; his paternal grandmother, Mary Thacker (Dave); his paternal grandfather, E.J. Dugas; his uncles Edward Dugas, Donnie Thomas; his grandmother, Bennie “Nunu” Reon; and his friend Beb Longion
