Joseph F. “Floyd” LaVergne, 80, of Lake Charles, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at his residence. A native of Roanoke, LA., Joseph was born on January 10, 1943, to Armand and Ella LaVergne. After serving his country he returned to Southwest Louisiana and became a forklift operator and retired from Bridgestone/Firestone Rubber Company where he worked for over 40 years.
Floyd and his wife, Lurline, are devout Catholics. They are members of Our Lady Queen Heaven and went to Mass every Sunday when they were able. Floyd also had a love for travel. His free time was often spent traveling with his wife, Lurline. Throughout the years they saw the most beautiful places, made countless memories, and managed to see every U.S. state, with the exception of Hawaii. One of the places they most frequently visited was a deer lease in Many, LA. Every Thanksgiving, they would go with many of their nephews, family, and friends to spend some quality time together while hunting deer. Most of Floyd’s winters were spent in camouflage hoping to come across the deer with the most points.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: Lurline LaVergne, daughter; Ann Granger (Carl), stepdaughters: Robyn Trahan, Rhonda Breaux (Chris), sister: Jean Miller, 7 grandchildren: Dustin Armentor, Brandi Hebert, Dylan Holland, Clay Armentor, Katelynn Granger, Hannah Breaux, Madelynn Granger, 10 great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
