Joseph H. Dutreix, Jr., passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 4:35 PM in a local hospital.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Dutreix was born on December 11, 1916 in Brusly, LA to Marius T. Dutreix and Noemie Becnel Dutreix. He grew up in Kenner, LA and was the youngest of eleven children. Joseph served in Iran for twenty-six months during WWII. After the war, he was employed by United Gas Pipeline Company for thirty-five years in Shreveport, LA, where he was an usher at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was active in the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th Degree Member. Joseph was also an avid golfer and played weekly until he was 90 years old.
Mr. Dutreix is survived by his son, Harry Dutreix and wife Laura of Kingwood, TX; daughter, Judi Welch and husband Steve of Lake Charles; four grandsons, Brian Dutreix of Anchorage, AK, Bob Dutreix of Missoula, MT, Todd Welch of Jackson, TN, and Brett Welch and wife Nikki of Lake Charles; five great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lillian Welch of Jackson, TN and Grace, Drew, and Beau Welch of Lake Charles; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-eight years, Ruth Dutreix; parents; brothers, Charles, Theophile, Marius, August, Herman, and James; and sisters, Margaret, Freda, Mabel, and Marion.
His memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor Harry Greig and Father Nathan Long will officiate. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
