Joseph Murray Demarest

April 4, 1931 — August 14, 2017

 

Joseph Murray Demarest, 86, passed away at a local hospital after a brief illness on August 14, 2017.

 

Mr. Demarest served his country as a Staff Sergeant and a radar operator for the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After the war he joined the American Legion Post #1. In his professional life he worked at George’s TV Repair fixing Zenith TVs. He also worked for many years as a crossing guard for Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Joe was a parishioner and Head Usher at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. Mr. Demarest was an avid reader and enjoyed reading history books on World War I, World War II, and into the Korean War. He had an active leisure time as a bird hunter of snipe and dove, and making model airplanes. His family also remembers the joy he had from the big holiday family reunions.

 

He is survived by his son, Joseph Kim Demarest and wife Linda; grandson, Joseph Lee Demarest; three great-grandchildren, Ashton, Jada, and Brayden; and sister-in-law, Beatrice Demarest.

 

He is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife, Nelda Demarest; parents, Joseph and Evelia Demarest; and brother, Nathan Demarest.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Noon on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles. The Very Reverend Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 4PM to 9PM at Johnson Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 16. A rosary will be at 7PM Wednesday night. Visitation will continue Thursday morning 10AM to 11:30AM at the funeral home.
