Erleen Josephine Landry Moreno, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025. She had been a resident of Lake Charles Care Center since July 2025.Born on August 19, 1938, in Liberty, Texas, Erleen was the cherished daughter of Josephine Ella Bonin and Lindsey Landry.
After graduating from Lamar University with a degree in Nursing, Erleen began her career as a scrub nurse at Christus St. Patrick Hospital, where she worked for over twenty years before retiring. She later returned to healthcare at Woman & Children’s Humana in the SPD Department, retiring for a second time after several more years of dedicated service.
Erleen appreciated simple pleasures in life such as bird watching, gardening, caring for her beloved dogs, and fishing. She was a gifted cook known for her shrimp gumbo, homemade cheesecakes and pecan pies, which were family favorites. Musically talented, she possessed the ability to play songs on the piano by ear and always enjoyed family gatherings where she and her brother, Rudy, would entertain the group. Her faith became an important aspect in her life. She attended St. Henry Catholic Church and later in life, St. Martin de Porres.
Most importantly, Erleen valued the moments she shared with her family; nothing brought her more happiness than being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Edward Moreno and wife Darla, Lewis Moreno and wife Karla, Catherine Peloquin and husband Scott, James “Jim” Moreno and wife Debbie, and Samuel “Sal” Moreno; grandchildren: Brady, Christopher, Tyler, Bryce, Megan, Joshua, Morgan, Taylor, David, Brad, Krista, Tyler, Ashley and Brittani; twenty great-grandchildren; siblings Mary Ellen Mahaffey and David Landry and wife Maryanne; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Eileen Morgan; brother, Rudy Landry; and sister, Elizabeth George.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin Thursday at 10:00 AM until the time of service. A rosary will be recited at 12:00 PM. Erleen will be laid to rest at Consolata Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
