Joyce Marie Abshire

Joyce was born on November 2, 1943, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 30, 2022, in
Harbor Hospice in Lake Charles, LA. She was 78 years old. She was lifelong Louisiana native; Joyce was well-loved in her small town. Joyce was the mother of 4 children and raised 3 grandchildren. Despite her large family Joyce always made time for everyone. She always provided support and love for her family. She and
her husband Austin worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for their kids and grandchildren.
Joyce worked beside Austin and always fulfilled Provers 31:11-12, the heart of her Husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. They worked diligently together always helping each other no matter what the task was. They had a dream to have a new home on a piece of land, they had purchased, and they both began to clear it out day by day to create the homestead, they both had envisioned. They would drop the grandchildren off at school, then go and workday after day cutting and clearing trees and debris until the day came when they were able to set up their new home.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Austin Abshire, son, Rev. David Abshire and wife Renee, son, Byron Abshire; daughter, Regina Huffman and husband Chris grandchildren, Brittany Abshire, Sheree Abshire, Becky Wilson, Dena Miller, Heather Miller, Hannah Emerson, Leslie Chapan, Darren Abshire, Shawna Abshire, and Dustin Abshire; several great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Shanley, Eltry Looney; brother, Paul Demary, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Upon Joyce’s arrival in heaven, she was met by her son, Brian Abshire as well as her mother, Gladys Deshotel, Father, Lannie Deshotel, her granddaughter, Maigon Abshire, as well as her many sisters and brothers. She will be sorely missed until we all meet her again.
The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to our mother, grandmother, and wife the entire time she resided at their facility. Words can never express our gratitude for the care and compassion that each of you gave.
Funeral services are Friday, June 3, 2022, at 10 a.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa with Rev. David Abshire officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation begins Thursday in the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will resume Friday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
