Joycia Guillory

December 20, 1942 — December 5, 2025

Joycia Leen Sonnier Guillory, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2025, in the comfort of her Lake Charles home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on December 20, 1942, in Swords, Louisiana, to Vorries and Wilmer Gallot Sonnier.

Joycia lived her faith quietly and faithfully as a devoted Catholic and longtime member of the Legion of Mary and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lake Charles. She was known for her gentle spirit, easy conversation, and steady work ethic. Her family was the center of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

She found joy in the simple comforts, reading her favorite romance novels, working word search puzzles, and catching up on her beloved soap operas and Lifetime shows. She also enjoyed walking with her sisters, whose companionship she treasured through the years. And, she rarely missed an opportunity to watch her beloved New Orleans Saints play football.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Donna Guillory, Rebecca Walker and husband Michael, Jacqueline Ann Guillory, and Reba Guillory; her grandchildren, Marcus Trent, Christie Carter, Candace Carter, Cartia’ Carter, Michael Walker, Jr., Jessica Walker, Jasmine Walker, Sasha Guillory, Ariel Hubbard, Paul Randle, and DaAndre Provost; fifteen great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Evelyn Paul, Patricia Sonnier, and Wade Sonnier.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnny Guillory, Jr.; her brother, Shelton Sonnier; and her sisters, Debra Sonnier and Jerlyn Randall.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 2031 Opelousas Street, with Rev. Rommel Tolentino serving as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Combre Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be held in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, 4321 Lake Street, on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the procession departs for the church at 11:30 AM. A rosary will be recited at 11:00 AM.

Pallbearers will be Stacy Sonnier “Tootie,” Stanton Sonnier “Peb,” Michael Walker, Marcus Trent, and Cartia’ Carter.

Joycia leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering love for her family. May she rest in the peace of God she served so faithfully.

The family would like to give special thanks to Christie Carter and Evelyn Paul for their loving care and compassion during our mother’s final days.
