Judge James Curtis Mcinnis

January 24, 1939 — August 12, 2016

Judge James Curtis “Jim” McInnis, 77, died Friday, August 12, 2016, in a local hospice facility.

 

Born in Shreveport, Louisiana to Curtis Malone and Loretta Barfield McInnis, Judge McInnis grew up in Lake Charles, graduating from Lake Charles High School in 1957, McNeese State University in 1965, and Loyola School of Law in New Orleans in 1968.  He served as Assistant District Attorney for Calcasieu Parish for many years, and later served as 14th Judicial District Court  Judge from January 1, 1981 until he retired on December 31, 1996. 

 

Judge McInnis enjoyed hunting and fishing as a young man, as well as sports cars, motorcycles, power paraplanes, and finally, golf carts.  In his later years, he learned to enjoy art, developing his talent in painting, and music.  He was an avid researcher and a deep thinker and had a great sense of humor.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Charles.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-five years, Judith “Judy” Coe McInnis; one daughter, Ashleigh Lauren Terry and her husband Jared, also of Lake Charles;  three granddaughters, Scarlett Terry and twins, Juliette and Cecilia Terry; sister-in-law, Sue Perkins McInnis; and niece, Sheri Creasy and husband Cliff. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William D. McInnis; and two children, Kimberly Katherine McInnis and Ross Bailey Coe McInnis.

 

A memorial service celebrating the life of Judge McInnis will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home.  Reverend Ronnie Estes will officiate.  Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time.  Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
