Judy Ellen Ewing

Judy Ellen Stokeld Ewing, 76, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026.

Judy lived her life with a genuine love and care for the people around her. She was often described as a mother to everyone-a steady presence, a source of peace, and the glue that held her family together. She was one of the most selfless women her family and friends knew, and she had a way of making everyone feel like they belonged. She was affectionately known as "Memaw" not only by her grandchildren, but by many of her children's friends, whom she happily adopted as her own.

Judy adored her family and was especially proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved being a mother and took great joy in caring for the people she loved. Her son once said, "I got my heart from my Mama," a reflection of the love and compassion she passed down to her family.

Judy was unapologetically herself and never needed much to make her happy. She loved traveling with her husband, Don, especially on cruises and trips in their camper. They frequently traveled with their lifelong friends, Ronnie and Wanda Faul, who also served as best man and maid of honor at their wedding. Their friendship remained a treasured part of Judy and Don's lives throughout the years.

Judy grew up in Lake Charles before moving to Moss Bluff during her 10th-grade year. She began dating Don Ewing during her senior year of high school, and the two were married just one year after graduation. They would have celebrated 57 years of marriage this year.

Judy worked for a short time at The Dog House, a local hot dog stand, and later helped run an office established by her brother, Nolan. She eventually chose to stay home, especially after the birth of her first granddaughter, and devoted herself to her family.

She also loved baking and was especially known for the treats she made around Christmas. Her Christmas "trays" became a favorite among friends, family, and anyone lucky enough to receive one.

For Judy, love was often found in the simplest things. One of the memories her family will carry with them is the way she would hold up her hand in an "I love you" sign whenever her family drove away. It was a small gesture, but one that said everything.

Judy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Don Ewing; her three sons, Shane Ewing, Doug Ewing (Heather), and Derek Ewing (Jennifer); her grandchildren, Darian Johnson (Dyllon), Jonathan Ewing, Sarah Ewing, Brennan Ewing, Cain Ewing, Christian Ewing, Aubrie Quibodeaux, and Sloane Romero; her great-grandchildren, Ripp Johnson and Crimson Mason; and her brother, Nolan Stokeld (Barbara).

She was preceded in death by her parents Earl Gene Stokeld, and Wynodine Demeritt Stokeld; and her twin siblings, Jim and Gene Stokeld.

A funeral Mass for Judy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Monday, September 14, from 5:00-8:00 p.m., with a rosary at 6:00 p.m.

Judy will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but the love she gave so freely will continue through the people she cared for and the family she held so closely together.
