Julius Ray Miller, 89, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2026. A lifelong resident of Lake Charles, Julius was born on February 20, 1937, to Julius W. Miller and Ruth Merchant Miller.
Julius graduated from Lake Charles High School and later attended McNeese State University, where he studied art. During his time at McNeese, he met the love of his life, Cynthia Diane Miller. Their marriage of more than 55 years was marked by deep devotion, shared faith, and a lifetime of memories together.
Julius was a creative and thoughtful man who enjoyed working with his hands. One of his proudest accomplishments was building a car himself, a project that spanned more than twenty years and reflected both his patience and craftsmanship. He also enjoyed spending time fishing and was known among family and friends for his friendly and social nature. Julius lived his life grounded in his Christian faith and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Charles.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Eric Todd Miller, Kim Caton, and Jason Miller; his grandchildren, Bonner Abram Caton and Emily Marie Miller; and his sisters, Judy Triche (Ted) and Lebby Coulter (Lee). Julius also held a special place in his heart for the family dogs, BeBe, Lou, and T-Belle, and his faithful companion, Precious, who preceded him in death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Cynthia Diane Miller; and his brother, Terry Miller (Marcella).
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street in Lake Charles, on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Julius and Cynthia will be laid to rest together at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Julius will be remembered for his kindness, creativity, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. His family takes comfort in the many memories he leaves behind and in the faith that he now rests in peace.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Staff of Harbor Hospice, Grand Cove Nursing Home, Peggy Kelley, his caregiver, and all of our wonderful friends and family for prayers and surrounding us with their love and support at this time.
