On September 20, the ties binding me to this world were severed. Leaving here with faith and hope, I will see the magnificent, loving eyes of my Lord and my God.
I began my life in Lake Charles on November 5, 1950. I was the last child of three born to Florine Belaire Walker and Homer P. (“Honey”) Walker Sr. My brother Paul was the first to arrive, then my sister Carol, and finally I came along to complete our family.
We were a very close-knit family. I remember barbecues under the oak tree, homemade ice cream in the shade of that same tree, days spent riding horses, family trips to McFadden Beach, and countless other cherished memories.
I attended and graduated from LaGrange High School in 1968, and soon after began working at several banks. After living briefly in San Francisco, I returned home to Lake Charles. In time, I met and married a dear man, Mitchel Breaux, on March 1, 1979. Our marriage lasted six years, but our friendship endured until my final day.
In 1985, I re-entered the workforce as an admissions representative at Acadiana Technical College until it closed. I later joined the sales department at LA-99 Radio and eventually worked for Stage Stores. I left my employer to care for my mother after she was diagnosed with dementia. She was the greatest human love of my life. After ten years of devotion, she was finally set free on October 7, the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary.
My health quickly declined, but I was blessed with the compassionate care of Dr. Mir Akbar Khan. His kindness, patience, and exceptional diagnostic skills meant the world to me. First as my mother’s physician and later as mine. He was not only a wonderful doctor but also a treasured friend and exceptional person.
To the St. Romain family—and particularly my guardian angel, John St. Romain—I treasured your constant, unselfish help. Your many acts of Christian charity and mercy knew no bounds. You never said no, never complained. Oh, the rewards you have built in Heaven!
I am survived by my sister, Carol Walker Perry of Mineola, Texas; nephews, Keith Lynn Perry of Mineola, Texas, Jimmy Wayne Perry (Christy) of Tonopah, Nevada, Kevin Dale Perry (Tammy) of Tampa, Florida, and Daniel Perry of Tyler, Texas; and cousins, Mary Hebert (Skip) of Lafayette, John K. Belaire, Jimmy Belaire, Denise Belaire, Leslie Johnson (Vaughn), and Patricia (Carol) Wainwright.
I was preceded in death by my parents, Florine and “Honey” Walker; my beloved brother, mentor, and hero, Paul Walker; my aunt, Rita Belaire Bish; and my maternal and paternal grandparents.
A special thanks is extended to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department for saving my life during Hurricanes Laura and Delta, and for their after-care—especially Sheriff Tony Mancuso, Chris Hathaway, Sgt. Scott Rosteet, Sgt. Elliot Phillips, Lt. Jason Johnson, Sgt. Grant Strenth, and Cpl. K. Eling. Thank you, my angels in blue.
Kathy’s family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the Harbor Hospice staff—too many to name, but a few noted were Ginger RN, Danette RN, and Ms. Jasmine Mosely, MSW—for their compassionate care and countless acts of kindness through the years. Special thanks are also given to her devoted home caregivers, who quickly became like family: Wilda Goodley, Shatrell Lowdins, Shameka Robinson, and Vickie Jones—who prayerfully held her hand in her final moments. Your selfless service will forever be remembered as the charitable work of our loving Lord.
A funeral service will be held at 1:45 PM on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM and continue until the start of the service with a rosary being recited at 1:00 PM.
