Kenneth Joseph Istre

February 21, 1950 — July 3, 2016

Kenneth Joseph Istre, 66, passed away at 5:00 pm on Sunday July 3rd in a local care facility.

 

Kenneth was born in Crowley, LA and has lived most of his life in Lake Charles. He was a graduate of Lagrange High School and McNeese State University, where he studied business and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.   Kenneth was the General Manager of the Ranch Truck Stop, Administrator of Casa de Vida, Area Manager of Sline Industrial Painters, General Manager of Evans Oil Company and a Senior Estimator for the Brock Group in Beaumont Texas.

 

Kenneth was an active member of the community serving two terms on the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. He served ten years on the SWLA Mardi Gras Board of Directors and was a founding member of Krewe Des Amis, where he served as Captain for 31 years. He also served fifteen years on the ASA Girls Fast Pitch Board of Directors and the McNeese State University Alumni Board.

 

Many people remember him as “Coach Istre” as he coached at Our Lady Queen of Heaven School after college and coached on several of his daughters sports teams. Kenneth never met a stranger; he loved to talk politics and sports. He also loved being part of Mardi Gras in SWLA,   allowing him time to celebrate with good friends and family, especially his wife, Becky. In his spare time, he enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes, reading and building and impressive collection of books, and watching and keeping his own stats for local high school and college sports.

 

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rebecca Primeaux Istre; his parents, Charles and Irene Istre; father and mother-in-law, Armand “Bill” and Velma “Jean” Primeaux and brother-in-law, David Sarsfield.

 

Kenneth is survived by three daughters, Kristen Orndoff and husband James of Lake Charles, Kourtney Istre of Lake Charles, Kara Istre and financé Benoit Laroche of Alberta, Canada; brother, Richard Istre and wife Barbara of Baton Rouge; sister, Ann Sarsfield Martin and husband Al of Lafayette; two grandchildren, Karter and Kamryn Orndoff, brother-in-laws, Armand J. Primeaux, Jr. and wife Nancy of Clinton, IL, Arthur W. Primeaux, M.D. and wife Gayla of Lake Charles, Russell O. Primeaux and wife Valerie of Baton Rouge and Christopher J. Primeaux and wife Mia of Lake Charles and seventeen nieces and nephews .

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 09, 2016 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Friday will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Saturday will be from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM in the funeral home.
