Kenneth Leroy Johnson

Kenneth Leroy Johnson, 89, of Lake Charles died Friday, April 7, 2017 in his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Kenneth was born on August 31, 1927 in Mamou, LA to Otha Johnson and Ella Goree Johnson, moved to Glenmora, LA where he grew up then married Billie Rae Gorum. Kenneth and his wife moved to the Lake Charles area in the early 1950’s where they lived out his life.

Kenneth was an auto paint and body man whose working life was spent at Cagle Chevrolet and Best Body Shop. He was an avid bowler and golfer in his younger days.

He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Billie Rae Johnson; his three children, Kenneth R. Johnson of Long Beach, MS, Cynthia Kay Johnson of Lake Charles, and Barry Dwayne Johnson of Forth Worth, TX; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Otha and Ella Johnson; six siblings, Ewell Perry “Pete” Johnson, Herbert Johnson, Walter Johnson, Mary “Sis” Johnson Gill, Edith “Dick” Johnson Williams, and Billie Ruth Johnson; and two grandchildren, Anice and Chauence.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Gregory Bath will officiate. A family viewing will begin at 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM before leaving for the cemetery.
