Kenneth Lee Moreland

July 24, 1934 — December 12, 2025

Kenneth “Ken” Lee Moreland, beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend peacefully passed away at his home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Friday, December 12, 2025. He was 91 years old.

Ken was born on July 24, 1934 in Oak Grove, Louisiana, to Claude Alton “Jack” Moreland, a sharecropper, and Mary Nettie Blackwell Moreland. Growing up in rural Louisiana, Kenneth learned the values of hard work and family from an early age. He shared his childhood with his half-brother, David, and his sister, Louise.

As a child, Ken was especially fond of his horse, Bandit. His love for animals and the simple pleasures of country life remained with him throughout his years.

Ken married the love his life, Peggy Marie Gros, in 1954 and shared 65 wonderful years, building a loving and caring family who will carry both of their legacies in their hearts.

Ken’s life was marked by dedication, kindness, and unwavering support for those he loved. He was a loving dad, Pawpaw, and uncle. He was a faithful Christian and a loyal Deacon at his church, First Baptist in Sulphur, LA. He will be remembered for his playful spirit and sense of humor. He loved being outside with his grandchildren, taking them to the park, picking figs, pushing them on the swing set, and playing pretend games.

He enjoyed going fishing, watching his nephews play music, and traveling with his family to Jackson Hole, WY. He loved exploring the great outdoors in the National Parks and marveling at God’s creations. He loved his church and his church family, and was the dedicated coffee barista in his Sunday School. He worked at Firestone Polymers in Sulphur for forty-four years. Upon retiring, he turned to his favorite hobby as an Umpire for Girl’s fast-pitched softball and developed lifelong friendships in the community. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge 424.

He is survived by his half-brother, David Moreland, his children, Darlene Manuel and Kenneth Moreland II, his grandchildren, Lindsey Wisner and Lauren Manuel, two great grandchildren, niece, Patti Arlan, nephew Raymond Ellender, four great nephews, two great nieces, and his dog, Rose.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, his parents, Claude and Mary, and sister, Louise.

Visitation and memorial gathering will be held at First Baptist Church of Sulphur on Tuesday, December 16 beginning at 10am.

Kenneth Lee Moreland will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
