Kevin John Ackley

October 8, 1958 — June 24, 2021

Kevin John Ackley, 62, of Lake Charles passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 24, 2021 after a long battle with early-onset dementia.

Mr. Ackley was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles.  He was a graduate of St. Louis Catholic High School.  He and his brothers ran the family business, Custom Carpet Service, for many years in North Lake Charles. Mr. Ackley enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching football - he was an avid fan of Payton Manning and the Texas Longhorns.  A man of faith, he was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He also attended countless retreats at the Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat House in Grand Coteau, where he was Co-Captain for many years.  Mr. Ackley will be most remembered as being outwardly friendly to anyone and everyone, and for being a devoted and loving father, husband, son, brother, and friend.

He leaves to honor his memory, his wife of 34 years, Vera Ann LeDoux Ackley of Lake Charles; four children, Aaron Ackley of Lafayette, Victoria Guidry (Codey) of Orange, TX, Aidan Ackley of Carlyss, and Emily Rather (Tyler) of Lake Charles; four grandchildren, Addelynn Ackley, Baylor Ackley, Valynn Guidry and Weston Guidry; two brothers, Ricky Ackley (Denise) of Lake Charles and Keith Ackley (Janice) of Sulphur; one sister, Sandie Chauvin (Ronnie) of Lake Charles, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Montie “Buck” and Lucille Hughes Ackley; brother, Gary Ackley and sister-in-law, Judy Ackley.

Mr. Ackley’s family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ron Lewis Jr., Dr. Louise Becnel, Amedisys Hospice, and the staff of 2 Tower Oncology at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for their excellence in care and kindness.

Visitation will be Monday June 28, 2021  from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary service beginning at 6:30 PM at University Baptist Church.  Visitation at University will resume on Tuesday from 8:30 until 9:30 AM.  Funeral services Tuesday will be at 10:30 AM at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Father Wayne LeBleu will officiate.  Interment will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
