Kristina (Kris) Brame Raetzsch, age 72, of Lake Charles, peacefully passed into the loving arms of Jesus on August 24, 2025, surrounded by her cherished family and close friends after a courageous battle with Acute Myeloma Leukemia.
Born on October 12, 1952, to Ralph and Billie Blankenship Brame in Lake Charles. She attended Boulevard Baptist Church, where she formed lasting friendships, deepened her faith, and accepted Jesus as her personal Savior. She later became a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Kris was blessed to grow up in a loving, Christian family, sharing countless joyful moments in Oak Park with her brothers, Clay and Guy Brame.
A proud graduate of LaGrange High School in 1970, Kris continued her education at McNeese State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education followed by a Master’s Degree in Elementary Counseling. Her dedication to education was evident in her 25 years of service as a classroom teacher and later as a middle school counselor at F.K. White. After retiring from the Calcasieu Parish school system, she joined her husband, Hugh, in his dental practice, where they worked side by side, creating beautiful memories and friendships.
Kris often reminisced about her students, recalling how some would shy away upon seeing Mrs. Raetzsch in the hall, while others would eagerly seek her out to share how profoundly she had impacted their lives. She was a devoted wife who, together with Hugh, shared a love of travel and outdoors. She loved spending time with family and friends at the beach and at their family property in Texas where many wonderful memories were made with their children and grandsons.
She was devoted to her five grandsons—Wilson, Matthew, Davis, Nicholas, and Josh—and a loving aunt to her five nieces—Heather, Jaime, Briana, Tressa, and Traci. Known for her kindness and thoughtfulness, she was a loyal friend who always put others first.
A proud member of Chi Omega Sorority and Republican Women, Kris had recently joined PEO International, where she was excited to forge new friendships and connections.
Kris was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her husband of 43 years, Hugh.
She is survived by her stepchildren, Hugh (Betsy) Raetzsch and Susan (Paul) Copeland, her five grandchildren, her brothers Clay Brame and Guy (Paula) Brame, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the support and care given by Christine Heller and Sally Fenet during Kris's illness. The family is profoundly thankful for the way you supported Kris and us throughout that difficult time.
A celebration of Kris's life will be held at Trinity Baptist Church on Friday, September 12, 2025. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Dr. David Rose and Rev. Steve James.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church or The Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.
