Larry Drounette

November 14, 1934 — May 15, 2018

Larry Drounette of Sulphur, LA passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.  Larry was born on November 14, 1934 in Sulphur, LA to Eddie and Edrie Brown Drounette.

Mr. Drounette grew up in Sulphur and was a 1955 graduate of Sulphur High School.  While is school he was active in football, track, FBLA and 4-H.  After graduation, he became a member of Pipefitter’s Local 195 where he worked as a welder and draftsman.  Larry then opened up his own automotive body shop where he was a leader and innovator in body repair techniques from the late 70’s until 2005.  Larry loved to work with his hands, and in particular, loved to work with wood.  Larry was also an avid New Orleans Saints fan.

Mr. Drounette is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters; Sheila Kibodeaux, Vera Jones, and Colleen Drounette, and four brothers; Albert, Douglas, George and Bobby Drounette.

Larry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cathy Langdon Drounette along with three sons: Larry Dronet, David (Lennise) Dronet, and Ethan (Mandi) Drounette; and three daughters: Debbie (Darrell) McKelvy, Tina Stanley, and Cathy (Kevin) Leonard.  Those who will especially miss Larry are his grandchildren: Larry Ray (Nikki) Dronet, Cameron Dronet, Brittany (Michael) Welch, Shawnna (Lou) Martinez, Cate (David) LaRose, Chrissy Dronet, Eamon, Emma and Liam Leonard and Hayley, Kaden and Lilli Drounette.  Mr. Drounette also leaves four sisters; Shirley Francis, Pat (Alfred) Crochet, Lois Drounette and Donna Theriot.  Larry also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his beloved dog Jax.

The family will receive friends at Johnson & Robison Funeral Home on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 5-9PM, with a Rosary at 6PM.  Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 8AM.  A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor at 10AM, officiated by Father Edward Richard, M.S.  Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Garden of Memories in Carlyss.

The family would like to extend personal thanks to Dr’s Fuqua, Ledet, Kohler and Thompson and the staff of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital ICU for their loving and tireless care.
