Larry Lee Starr, 86 of Lake Charles, LA completed his final flight to join his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 2, 2021.
He was one of two children born to Elvin and Ruth Starr in Stanton, Texas on October 27, 1934.
He grew up on the Dallas area, attending Dallas High School. His love of man and country were unsurpassed, so at the age of 16 he enrolled into the United States Air Force. During his twenty-two years of service he earned the rank of Technical Sergeant as a flight engineer, until his honorable retirement in 1973.
He earned a Masters Degree in Education, and after retirement from the military he began working at the Charleston, SC School Board as a community school director followed by Assistant Principal.
As a husband and father, he led by example in the importance of faith and family, teaching them the word of God and how man should live by his teachings. As Jesus was a carpenter, he embraced the task of building the home in Big Pasture where his children would be raised.
He was an avid gun enthusiast and while in the military he competed in Competitive Shooting Events.
He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Mabel Ann Broussard Starr; four sons, Michael (Donna) Broussard of Lake Charles, LA, Steward Bruce (Glenda) Starr of Marion, NC, Deacon Stephen (Elizabeth) Starr of Iowa, LA, Jerry (Heidi) Starr of Columbus, GA; four daughters, Patricia “Sissy” (Steve) Owens, Mary Theresa Limehouse of Charleston, SC, Clarisse Ann Abbott (Trey) of Lake Charles, LA, Bobbi Lynne Starr of Columbus, GA; twenty seven grandchildren and forty-one great grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Sue Herman of Wichita Falls, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family will welcome friends on Friday, May 7, 2021 at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Iowa, LA from 5pm to 8pm. A Cursillo Rosary will be prayed at 6pm. Visitation will resume at 11am on Saturday, May 8, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial led by Father Tony Fontenot will begin at 1pm with burial to follow at Lacassine Catholic Cemetery. The family extends an invitation to join them in the hall for a reception following the services.
