Larry Charles Sens

Larry Charles Sens, 88, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025. Born on May 1, 1937, in Baton Rouge, Larry was the beloved son of Charles and Mary Nell Sens.

A true man of ingenuity, Larry lived by his simple philosophies like: "If a man made it, a man can fix it." He possessed an innate talent for repairing everything from vehicles and lawnmowers to cherished pieces of furniture and clocks. This passion began early in life and as a young man, he modified his own roadster, rebuilt cars, and later in life shared his expertise with local drag racing teams.

After high school, Larry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his service and college attendance at LSU, he settled down and married the love of his life, Gloria. Larry followed in his father's footsteps, managing several Singer Sewing Machine Company stores for twenty years. Embracing his calling for working with his hands and his entrepreneurial spirit, he then purchased AC Alternator, which he successfully owned and operated until his full retirement.

Retirement couldn't slow Larry down. He continued his projects at the beloved family farm in Bunkie, Louisiana, or extended his kindness to neighbors in "Larry's Garage." The garage was more than a workspace; it was an open door for advice, captivating stories, and perhaps a shared beer or two.

Larry was a perpetual student and teacher, always eager to learn new skills and impart his knowledge to others. He had a way with words-true, self-evident, and leaving a lasting impression on all who listened. Most importantly were his stories of grand adventures, convictions, and his cherished family.

While the garage door is now closed, Larry's spirit, his stories, and his legacy of hard work and generosity live on in the hearts of his friends and family.

Larry is survived by his daughter; Diana Abshire, son; Eric Sens and wife Lynne, grandchildren; Blaize Abshire, Chase Abshire, Sean Sens, Michael Sens, and brother; David Sens.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Gloria Sens, his parents, his sister Lee Anna Sens, and an infant daughter, Marcelle Sens.

Visitation will be Friday, November 21, 2025, from 9:00am until the Memorial Service at 11:00am, all at Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake St. Lake Charles, LA. 70605. Burial services and military honors will take place Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 2:00pm at Pythian Cemetery in Bunkie, LA.
