Laurie L. Gregg-Straub

Jul 4, 1962 — Nov 1, 2026

Laurie Lynne Gregg Straub passed away at her home on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Laurie was the oldest of three children born to Brooks and JoAnn Robinson Gregg. Her father's career with Conoco took the family to several places during her early childhood before bringing them back to Lake Charles in 1969. Happy to make Lake Charles their home, the family settled in, and Laurie began fourth grade at Dolby Elementary School.

It was during her time at Dolby that Laurie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, bringing new challenges and adjustments for the entire family. She went on to graduate from Barbe High School in 1980 and Louisiana State University in 1985.

Following college, Laurie moved to New York City to pursue a career in modeling. With her striking beauty and engaging personality, she found success modeling bridal fashions, traveling throughout the world in her work. Designers particularly appreciated her complexion, which complemented the many shades of white used in bridal gowns.

In 1998, Laurie married Greg Straub, a New York City firefighter. Greg survived the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, although his health was severely affected. Their marriage brought Laurie one of the most important people in her life, their son, Quin.

After 36 years away from Lake Charles, and with encouragement from her family, Laurie returned to her hometown, where she could once again be close to those who had always been an important part of her life.

Laurie is survived by her mother, JoAnn Gregg; her son, Quin; her brother, Bryan Gregg and his wife, Cyndi; her sister, Kelli Mullens; her niece, Michelle Mullens; her nephew, Michael Mullens; and her special aunt, Becky Watson Bezone and her husband, Mark. She was preceded in death by her father, Brooks Gregg.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 6, 2026, at University United Methodist Church, 3501 Patrick Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana, with Pastor Pattye Hewitt officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
