Lawrence Bruce Martin

Lawrence Bruce Martin (Larry) of Riverside, Rhode Island died Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Cornerstone Specialty Hospital of Southwest Louisiana in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He was 78 years old.

Larry was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on January 12, 1944. He was in the United States Coast Guard, which he shared many stories about. He was also a very talented artist. His passion was creating very detailed drawings out of stippling dots. He was very passionate about his love for New England, especially Rhode Island.The beautiful coastlines, lighthouses, and fall foliage inspired a lot of his artwork that he loved sharing with others.

He worked on the University of Rhode Island’s Oceanic Research ship, the Endeavor, for many years traveling on the ocean having many adventures which he loved.Then he worked at the Bradley Hospital in Riverside, Rhode Island as a porter for over 26 years until his retirement. After retirement, he developed a passion for collecting knives and making leather sheaths and handles for them.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, William W. Martin and Ella C. Anderson Martin of Warwick, Rhode Island, his beloved sister Terri Martin Rogers, and his nephew Kenneth Branch of Rhode Island.

He is survived by his son Albert W. Martin and his wife Tammy Martin of Hackberry, his daughter Patricia Deville of Hackberry, and his step-daughter Jody Holliday of Rhode Island. His grandchildren Amanda Deville, Tabitha Idlett and husband Ricky Idlett, Matthew Martin and wife Patricia Martin, Kameron Martin, Skylar Gaspard, Gabrielle Johnson, and Ian Poole and wife Brookyln Poole. His great grandchildren Abbie Martin, Phillip Martin, Wyatt Martin, William Martin, Ethan Deville, Eli Idlett, Ricki Idlett, Ryan Idlett, Avery Gaspard, Sage Courville, Zeppelin Gaspard, and Zailey Poole. Niece Jamie Branch, Nephew Steve Branch, their children and grandchildren. His best friend of 35 years Carl Kornmiller.

A special thanks to the caring staff at West Cal-Cam Hospital in Sulphur and Cornerstone Specialty Hospital of Southwest Louisiana in Lake Charles for their wonderful care of our family member.

A private celebration of life and spreading of his ashes will be done by his family at a later date.
