Leeland Daigle, 85, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully and quietly at his residence on Monday April 12, 2021.
Leeland was a native of Church Point and graduated from Church Point High School. Following graduation in 1954, Leeland joined the United States Air Force, and due to his academic achievements, was admitted to officer academy.
Upon his discharge from the Air Force, Leeland attended machinist trade school, preparing him for work with McDermott Ship Building in Morgan City. He later moved to Lafayette where he worked for Sears for 23 years. Following his retirement, he worked as a bus driver for the Lafayette Parish School Board for 10 years.
After marring Betty Lee Matthieu, Leland lived in Lexington, Kentucky where he was property manager for a town home association. He and his family to enjoy fresh milk, beef, chickens and ducks.
Finally, he and Betty relocated to Lake Charles in 2011, where they enjoyed Cajun Dancing on a regular basis. He also enjoyed organic gardening and wood working, carving and painting. Leeland made many pieces of fine furniture.
Leeland was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold Joseph and Hermine Lyons Daigle and a sister, Ethel Thibodeaux. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Betty; sons, Keith, Scott and David; granddaughter, Carli Daigle; mother of his sons, Betty Schexnyeder Daigle; sisters, Lena Thibodeaux, Eura Pugh, Joyce Koonce and Dorothy Martzall as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A gathering of family and friends will be at 1:00 PM on Friday April 16, 2021 at University Baptist Church, 4505 Lake Street, Lake Charles, with a Memorial Service to begin at 2:00 PM. Deacon Harold Nixon will Officiate. Inurnment will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
