Leland Young

Leland Young, 63, passed away on October 1, 2025, in a local hospice facility. Leland attended East Beauregard High School. He drove 18 wheelers for many years before becoming a diesel mechanic for Chem Waste. During his career, he worked with his friend Glenn Friday for 20 years and mentored “Budha” Moffett towards the end of his career. Leland enjoyed fishing, Nascar, hanging out at the lake, spending time with his grandchildren, and teaching his granddaughters how to drive. He loved attending auctions with his lifelong friend Pete Olivier and working with his hands. During the hard times, he always made jokes and had a smile on his face. He had countless friends who he loved and loved to help.

Leland is survived by his wife, Chyrel Young; son, Cody Paul Goodfriend and wife, Melissa and their daughters, Kaylie Goodfriend Stetz and husband, Tanner (with a daughter on the way, Quinn Stetz, his first great granddaughter), Lillyah Goodfriend and Clare Goodfriend; son, Cain Goodfriend; son, Justin Young and wife, Jennifer and their children, Alyssa Young and Aaron Young (granddaughter, Oakleigh Young); sister, Joy Mahaffey and husband Corky; brother, Derrell Young; and stepfather, George Self. He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Wayne Young and mother, Laura “Nell” Self.

Services for Leland will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur at 11 AM with Pastor Marcus Wade officiating. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 5, 2025, from 5-8 PM with a rosary at 6 PM. Visitation will resume on Monday from 9 AM until the time of service.
