Lena Marie Guidry

Lena Marie Suire Guidry, 85, died on December 2, 2017.

 

Born in Jennings, Louisiana to Duffy and Aurelia Duhon Suire, Mrs. Guidry moved as a young woman to Sweet Lake, where she made a home with her husband and reared her children. She was a USDA State Egg Inspector and a contract worker for Kroger Stores, where she inspected eggs throughout Louisiana and Texas. She served on the Calcasieu-Cameron Cancer Board, was a past member of Cameron Chamber of Commerce and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Farm Bureau. In 2002, Mrs. Guidry was named Outstanding Cameron Citizen of the Year. She was the owner and manager of Lena’s Cajun Kitchen for four and one-half years and was a cook for the Coastal Hunting Club for eight years. She was a 4-H Club Leader for 16 years and a 50-year member of the Home Extension Club. She was also a site manager for the Council on Aging, and later their Outreach Manager. Mrs. Guidry had a great love for cooking and serving the Lord. She received staff members from Unity Way and from Older Workers of Cameron Parish. She was a Lions’ Club member, Chairman of Faith Share and a member of the Action Alliance.

 

Mrs. Guidry was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church and St. Patrick Chapel in Sweet Lake from 1950. She served in various capacities for her church, as Trustee, Council member, as a member of the Finance Committee, and was a Eucharistic Lay Minister, lector and choir member. She was also a member of the St. Patrick Altar Society, St. Vincent de Paul Group, and Catholic Daughters. She received service awards from the Diocese of Lake Charles and was named Evangelizer of the Year in 1997. She also served on the cemetery board for Sweet Lake Cemetery. Mrs. Guidry led a full life of service to her Lord, to her family, and to her fellow man; she took joy in giving and was ever grateful for the opportunities and blessings that came her way.

 

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Ricky W. Guidry and wife Michelle and Darlene Guidry Taylor and husband Michael, all of Sweet Lake; five grandchildren, Heather Taylor Reeves, Shadd Taylor, Angela Guidry, Nickie Guidry Blakley and Lance Guidry; and seven great grandchildren, Dalton Guidry, Alexis Reeves, Emma Reeves, Megan Reeves, Ryan Blakley, Ethan Blakley and Logan Blakley.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of fifty-one years, Albert Guidry.

 

A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at St. Patrick Chapel in Sweet Lake under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Bill Miller will officiate. Interment will follow at Sweet Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson funeral home on Tuesday from 4 PM until 9 PM, with a rosary to be recited at 6 PM Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8 AM until Noon.
