Leo Chester Martin, Sr.

Leo Chester Martin, Sr., 78, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 in the comfort of his home.

Mr. Martin was born on July 28, 1938 to Stanley Martin and Bella Royer in Duson, LA. He lived most of his life in Westlake and Lake Charles. He worked for 46 years as a Tug Boat Captain for many companies, primarily, Barge Transport and Conoco Marine Division. Mr. Martin’s greatest times were on horseback. He rode countless trail rides throughout his life and took great pride in instilling that love in his family. Martin loved Mardi Gras, especially dressing up and participating in the annual Chicken Run. He also enjoyed listening and dancing to Cajun French music and visiting with his family and friends. Mr. Martin will be most remembered for his fun loving spirit and his love of family.

Mr. Martin leaves to honor his memory, his four children, Ronald Bourque and wife Faye of West Lake, Leo Chester Martin, Jr. and wife Connie of Grand Lake, Pamela Marie Whittaker of Sulphur, and Melissa Salvador of Lake Charles; 11 grandchildren, Ronald Bourque, Jr., Veronica Brashear, Christopher Bourque, Brittney Smith, Duston Martin, Railey Nation, Amy Broussard, Ryan Whittaker, Abby Whittaker, Ashley Verret, and Kelsey Martin; 12 great grandchildren; three sisters, Beatrice Roger of Sulphur, Eva LaSage of Jennings, and Joyce Miller of LeBleu Settlement; as well as many dear friends.

He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 30 years, Verley Ann Bourque Martin; five brothers; one sister; and his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Sunday, August 14, 2016 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Garrett Caraway will officiate. Interment will be at Westlake Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation Saturday will be from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Cursillo rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume Sunday from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
