Leonard Richard

September 22, 1957 — July 12, 2016

Leonard Gene Richard, 58, of Lake Charles, LA passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.

 

Leonard was born September 22, 1957 to Francis and Vera Richard. All his life Leonard was an athlete and was a baseball player in his younger days. Leonard was a loyal supporter of his local work union and was the BioLab employee chair for United Way for over 20 years. Leonard was also a trained 1st responder. Mr. Richard was a Lake Charles High, Class of 1975, Wildcat and lifelong San Francisco 49ers fan. Leonard was a very giving man, and was awarded the recognition of a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club. He enjoyed dancing, was the life of the party, and enjoyed talking politics too. His family most remembers him as a good man, great husband, and a man that loved his children and his Lord. He lived life with joy and took nothing for granted.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Daphne Richard; sons, Alex Richard (Shelbi), Garren Saxby (Jessica); daughter, Layla Richard; mother, Vera Richard; sister, Paula Guillory (Mike); and brother Wayne Richard.

 

Leonard is preceded in death by his father Francis Richard and brother Darryl Richard.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday the 15th of July, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Visitation is at 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday July 14, 2016 with a rosary at 6 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will resume the following morning at 9 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Prien Memorial Cemetery. Father Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate services.
