Leota "Lola" Marie Smith

Leota “Lola” Marie Smith, born on October 11, 1941 in Basco, LA, daughter of the late Wilson and Martha (Leger) Sonnier, passed away on September 18, 2023 at the age of 81.
Lola attended St. Paul Lutheran Church. She worked at Muller’s for several years and worked at Wal-Mart for over 20 years until she retired. She enjoyed listening to music, watching tv, crossword puzzles, and talking to her sister Lynda on the phone several times a day.
She is survived by her son, Virgil Josiah Smith (Karen); daughter, April Smith; brother, George Sonnier (Ruby); sisters, Lynda Sonnier (Jerry), Donna Cormier (Jeff); grandchildren, David, Adriene, Autumn; great grandchildren, Aubree, Ethan; nephews, Scott Sonnier, Brandon Cormier, Tyler Cormier; extended family, Jason, Katrina, Emma, and Dylan Freeman.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil Joseph Smith; granddaughter, Kristen, and great grandson, Jonah.
Funeral services will be held in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 10 a.m., with Rev. Beau Guidry officiating. Burial will follow in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Carencro, LA. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Wednesday, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and will resume on Thursday at 8 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m.
