It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of LeRoy L. (Lee) LeBlanc, 82, announces his passing from this life on 11-14-17. Lee was born in Lake Arthur, LA on January 20, 1935 to the late Ellis LeBlanc and Dora Trahan LeBlanc Dugas, and lived most of his life in Lake Charles. A 1954 graduate of LaGrange High, he played on the football team and ran track. Lee served in the Louisiana National Guards Hdqtrs Co. 156th Infantry for several years and earned Master Sergeant status. He married his high school sweetheart, Hilda Gaspard, and they raised 3 children. Lee was a faithful member of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, choir member for several years, attended the Cursillo movement, Senior Circle, SMdP Altar Society, and an ACTS team member. He worked as a manager of National Food Stores and then Lakeshore Discount before going to work at Hercules where he was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 407, retiring in 1993.
For many years, Lee and Hilda were members and former court royalty of the Mardi Gras Krewe du Grande Bois having served on court three different times. He was a member of the Cajun French Music Association and served as State Board officer from the Lake Charles Chapter and was a member of CFMA of LA Chapitre Du Lac Charles Les Bon Temps Danseurs for many years. He loved dancing to Cajun music.
In his younger years he was active in coaching and manager of a Little League Baseball team. Lee was an outdoorsman, enjoyed nature, camping and fishing on Toledo Bend Lake with the kids and grandchildren and friends, cruising, working in his yard, traveling in the states, Canada and abroad. He was an avid duck hunter. He hunted and guided for numerous sport people from around the nation, while he was able, as well as family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Daniel and Richard LeBlanc.
He leaves to honor his memory his wife of 63 years, Hilda Gaspard LeBlanc, their daughter, Debra (Chuck) Bennett, of San Antonio, Texas; Ronald LeBlanc of Bozrah, Conn.; Michael (Desiree) LeBlanc of Cypress, Texas; 9 grandchildren, 9 Great grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy (Ferdie) Wiltz of Henderson; bothers-in-law Abbie, Jr. (Ida Mae) Gaspard and Richard (Grace) Gaspard of Lake Charles; sister-in-law Vivian Bonvillain of Baton Rouge, and one aunt, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Saturday November 18, 2017 in St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Msgr. Jace Eskind, Msgr. Harry Greig and Rev. Keith Pellerin will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home from 5 PM until 8 PM on Friday and will resume on Saturday from 8 AM until 10:30 AM. A rosary will be recited at 6 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
