Lillie Mae Breaux, 96, of Lake Charles passed away at 7:30 AM on Sunday, December 16, 2018 in her residence.
Lillie spent her life in service to others. She was a life member and past president of Auxiliary Post 2130, past president of the Cooties, life member of American Legion, a volunteer of RSVP for 35 years and a volunteer of Christus St. Patrick for 34 years. Lillie was chosen Woman of the Year of Southside Homemakers Club in 1963 and was past president many times. She loved to cook, dance with her husband, travel, and enjoyed all kinds of crafts, especially quilting for her family, as well as for others.
Lillie was a member of St. Catherine of Sienna Bible Study Club and the Apostleship of Prayer. She was a pioneer member of OLQH Church being a charter member of both the Altar Society and CDA Court 1785, helping with the Meal of the Month for priests and chairing the gumbo every Mardi Gras. Lillie sang in the Resurrection Choir, was a recipient of the Villa Maria Maple Leaf Award, and helped call Bingo at OLQH Family Life Center, as well as Villa Maria, where she enjoyed visiting with the residents. She was an extra-ordinary Minister of the Eucharist, helping Pat Klinkhammer set up for evening Mass. When Lillie’s grandson passed away she began attending morning Mass, helping Billy and Della Carrier with the sacristan duties. When Billy died, Lillie continued helping Della until Della retired. Lillie continued preparing for all morning Masses, training Betty Cedars to take her place when she went on her wonderful trips.
Mrs. Breaux was preceded in death by husband, August Breaux; son, Douglas “Butch” Breaux; grandson, Christopher Breaux; parents, Sidney and Effie Trimble Martin; and four sisters, Mamie Crochet, Lenora Guidry, Shirley Arceneaux and Genevie Crochet.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son; Rodney Breaux of Lake Charles; her two lovely daughters-in-law, Pat and Linda, that she always referred to as “my girls”; 4 grandchildren, Tony Breaux (Vivien), Kevin Breaux (Rebecca), Roma Burrhus (Dan), and Michelle Naquin (Cary); 14 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren and one on the way; one brother, S. Martin (Vee) of Arabi, LA; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Guidry of Welsh, Iris Toups of Natchez, MS, and Joyce LaPoint of Lake Charles; a brother-in-law, Orford Breaux of Lake Charles; and a number of nieces and nephews. We would be remiss without mentioning the love her life, Dianne Dionne, who affectionately adopted Lillie as her second mom.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to her doctors and their staffs, Dr. Craig V. Broussard, Dr. John M. Winterton, and Dr. Gerald Mouton, also to the staff of Heart of Hospice as well as her caregivers, Yvonne Ceasar, Addie LeJeune, Laurie Comeaux, June LaFleur, and Tina Spell.
