Lionel Mestayer

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lionel Joseph Mestayer Jr., who left us on October 15, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on June 25, 1943, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Lionel lived a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories, primarily in Sulphur, Louisiana. Lionel was a devoted family man, leaving behind his beloved children: son Shannon Mestayer (Renee), daughters Sondra Burnworth (Donald) and Latisha Lewis (Roger). He took immense pride in his family, which includes 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. The legacy of love he built will surely live on through them all. He dedicated many years as a supervisor in the chemical industry, where his work ethic and leadership shone brightly. He proudly served his Country in the United States Army and Navy. Away from work, Lionel had a passion for duck hunting, rebuilding cars, and traveling. He could often be found antiquing or spending quality time with his family, sharing stories and creating cherished memories. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Lionel's life. A funeral service is set to take place at Johnson & Robison Funeral Home on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM. There will be a public viewing on Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and another public viewing will follow on October 20, 2025, starting at 8:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Lionel will be laid to rest following the service on October 20, 2025, at 12:30 PM in Dutch Cove cemetery. Lionel was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Mestayer; his parents Lionel and Bernice Hoffpauir Mestayer; sister, Joell Morgan; brother, Daniel Mestayer; and granddaughter, JoHelen Reed.
