Lisa Sharon Tooke

July 19, 1960 — February 11, 2026

"I have become a marvel to many, For You are my strong refuge."

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭71‬:‭7‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

Lisa Sharon Curry Tooke was given by God to Robert Donald and Kay Carolyn Baker Curry in the Bradley County Hospital in Warren, Arkansas on July 19th, 1960. She is their second child, between her sister Donna K Curry and her brother, Mark Baker Curry. Due to military service responsibilities in California, Lisa's dad didn't see her for the first time until she was 20 days old, when he declared, "She's the pretty littlest baby I've ever seen." Most of her growing up was on the family's farm in Rye, Arkansas. Mr. Curry will tell you, "She has always been a go-getter". Through her teenage years she hauled hay and raised an acre of tomatoes with her sister in the hot Arkansas summers to earn spending money. She graduated salutatorian from Woodlawn High School and summa cum laude from the University of Arkansas, Monticello. Lisa extended her education at Louisiana Tech University with a masters degree in chemistry. She used this education and her farm-raised work ethic for the following 33 years in a chemical manufacturing facility in Lake Charles, Louisiana, retiring in 2017. Lisa was usually one of the brightest in the bunch, and had 'that smile' which accented her illuminating presence.

The development of her life in Jesus Christ began at an early age attending Union United Methodist Church at Rye, where as a young woman Lisa made her personal decision to accept the salvation freely offered through Jesus. During her many years in Lake Charles, she was a faithful member of Christ Community Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, small group leader, and on various church boards. Lisa had a strong desire to pursue her call to be like Jesus and searched this out in her Bible and through prayer daily. Her stated mission on this earth was to "lift others up and to glorify God", which she carried out faithfully every day. One of her favorite verses supported this call:

"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I that live, but Christ liveth in me: and that life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith which is in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me." Galatians‬ ‭2‬:‭20‬ ‭ASV‬‬

Another favorite passage is Psalm 19, which speaks to her appreciation and enjoyment of the beauty that God created in nature - "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands..."

It was in a 1975 summer revival service at Union Church in Rye that she took notice of a young man in a yellow shirt as he walked the aisle to receive his salvation. The following summer they dated and eventually became high school sweethearts. Her parents gave Lisa in marriage to her best friend and love of her life, Dennis Adrian Tooke, on December 29, 1979 at Union Church. Their marriage gave life to three children - Melissa Leigh Rawls (Cody), David Hunt Tooke (Shelby) and Cameron Scott Tooke; as well as three granddaughters - Isla Grace Rawls, Adalynn Louise Tooke and Ava Lane Tooke. To these girls she is affectionately and forever known as "Bunny". Lisa and Dennis raised their children with the help of family, the support of their church family at Christ Community, and the education and outreach of their community of Moss Bluff, Louisiana.

On February 11, 2026 this precious daughter, wife, friend, mom, and Bunny, a gift from our Father in Heaven, was tenderly and thankfully given back to Him for eternity in Heaven with Jesus in whom she is now fully and finally victorious. There she waits for those she so dearly loves and beckons them to follow Jesus completely, so they will meet her there when they are called home. May memories of her bright smile, caring nature, and great love for family, friends, and all people carry us here on Earth until that great and glorious day.

With great respect and gratitude, the family would like to acknowledge the physical care teams & individuals in the Lake Charles health system that provided excellent care for Lisa over the years. Thank you for your skill, compassion, and dedication. A special appreciation also for the love and prayers of neighbors, work and gym friends, First Moss Bluff small group, Christ Community family, and many relatives. Your kindness and generosity have been truly humbling.

"My mission is to lift others up and to glorify God" - Lisa Sharon Curry Tooke, a marvel to many because the LORD is her strong refuge.
