Lois Mae North

February 29, 1928 — April 15, 2015

Lois Mae North, 87, of Lake Charles, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 in the comfort of her home with her family at her side. Ms. North was a native of Ville Platte and longtime resident of Lake Charles. Proud of her Cajun heritage, she enjoyed dancing to French music, saying the rosary in Cajun French language, and was a member of the Cajun music association. She also had a very generous heart and will be remembered for the love of her family, sense of humor and kindness of heart. Preceding her in death are her parents, Dumas and Isaure Barazas LaFleur (Fontenot); husband, George Isaac North; sons, Robert North and Glenn North; and five brothers, Lawrence, Dennis, Clancy, Darbest and Larry LaFleur. Those left to honor and cherish her memory are a son, Larry North; daughters, Shirley Saltzman and husband L.J., Sweetlake, and Judy Benoit and husband Roger, Lake Charles; brother, Johnny Fontenot and wife Betty, Vidor, TX; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Monsignor Jace Eskind officiating. Burial will be at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home today, April 16, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Harbor Hospice, especially Crystal and Gabby, and a special granddaughter, Vanessa Sonnier and her husband, Eric who selflessly took care of Ms. Lois for the past five years, allowing her to remain in the comfort of home.
