Lake Charles – Lonnie Peter Gradney, Sr., 77, passed away in his residence on Sunday, December 24, 2023. Lonnie was born on November 9, 1946, in New Iberia, Louisiana to the late Simon and Thelma Orsot Gradney.
Lonnie served in the United States Army 1st Calvery Armored Division. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and was 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 5022. Lonnie worked for Northrup Grumman and retired after 15 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, playing music, going to casino, playing lotto tickets and loved spending time with family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Anna Auzenne Gradney; son, Lonnie Gradney, Jr. of Lake Charles, LA; daughter, Melissa Gradney Mackey (Derek) of Lafayette, LA; siblings, Azenor Gradney (Maxine) of Iowa, LA, Cassandra Holland of Leesville, LA, Peggy Whitemaine of Sparks, NV; 1 grandson, Dillon Mackey of Lafayette, LA; sister-in-law, Rose Gradney, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Donnavon Mackey; brother, John Gradney; brothers-in-law, Dwayne Holland and Tom Whitemaine.
A Mass of Christian burial will be in St. Henry Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m., the Very Rev. Matthew Cormier, Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Jennings. Visitation begins Wednesday in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m., with a rosary recited at 9 a.m.
