Louis Estes, 90 of Lake Charles, Louisiana died peacefully in his home on Friday, February 21, 2025. He was born in Clyde, Texas to Clayton and Nancy Estes.
He attended Baylor University where he was an All-American basketball player for the Bears. Louis met the love of his life, Marilyn at 9th & Elm Church of Christ in Orange, Texas. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married. After graduation, he and Marilyn moved to Lake Charles where he worked at McDonald Lumber Yard and he also played semi pro basketball for the McDonald Scots. He then joined the Army and served at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. After his military service, he and Marilyn moved to Lake Charles where he worked at various sporting good stores. Eventually, with much hard work, he became partners with Stoner Moss and E&M Sport Center became a reality!
Louis & Marilyn couldn’t wait to start their family. Their children, Vicky, David, Les and Liz, meant the world to them. Though he loved the church, attending and watching basketball, football or any kind of sport, Louis’ favorite role was that of a parent and a grandparent to Brady, Devin, Sarah, Stephanie, Dustin, Will & Henry. He treasured any time spent with them.
Louis was passionate about his business and the people he met and worked with at E&M Sport Center. He spent endless hours working at his desk writing orders, placing orders, and visiting with coaches and customers. He was an active member at Enterprise Boulevard Church of Christ for 69 years. He served as a Deacon and an Elder for many years.
Louis will always be remembered for his selflessness, kindness and generosity, just to name a few of his special qualities. We were the lucky ones. We could not have asked for a better Dad and will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of so many who loved and knew him. He absolutely lived a life worth living!
He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton, his mother, Nancy. His brothers, Mack and Connard and sister, Shirlee. One surviving sister, Betty.
