Lucas George Terracina, 64, of Lake Charles passed away, Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in his residence surrounded by family.
Mr. Terracina was born in Opelousas and lived in Lake Charles since 1976. He was a graduate of Opelousas Catholic High School and receive his Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Management from Southwestern Louisiana University (ULL). Mr. Terracina began his employment with Calcasieu Parish as an Inspector in 1976 and retired as the Director of Calcasieu Parish Mosquito Control in 2013. He was Member of and past President of the Board of Directors of the Calcasieu Parish Employees Credit Union, Past President of the Louisiana Mosquito Control Association, Member of the Louisiana Mosquito Control Board of Directors, Interim Executive Director of the American Mosquito Control Association. Lucas was recipient of multiple awards including the Meritorious Service Award, the Medal of Honor, and the Hathaway Ritter Distinguished Achievement Award. He was currently serving on board of directors for the Lake Charles Regional Airport Authority.
Lucas had a great love of family. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. He especially loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. He was their greatest fan and advocate. He served as volunteer coach for various youth soccer, baseball, and softball teams. He was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (Cutrera) Terracina; children, Nicholas Terracina and wife Bridget of Girard, Ohio, Diane Rump and husband John of Shreveport, LA, Claire Terracina and Jacob Terracina both of Lake Charles, LA: seven grandchildren, Patrick, Nuala, Margret, Addison, Maci, Hollan, and Westin; three sisters; Grace Shaw Broussard and husband Willis, Carol Saltz, and Emily Terracina. He is preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Tony Terracina, and his brother J.V. Terracina.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 17, 2018 from Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor Daniel Torres will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM in the funeral home, with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue from 8:00 AM until departure for the church, Saturday at the funeral home.
