Lurline Smith Carter

March 26, 1922 — October 31, 2016

Lurline Smith Carter, 94, of Lake Charles passed away peacefully on Monday morning October 31, 2016 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.

 

Lurline was a native of DeQuincy, Louisiana. After completing high school in Gibsland, Louisiana, she graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Elementary Education. She retired after 39 years of teaching elementary education in Mississippi, Moss Bluff and Iowa. Following retirement, she established Moss Bluff Flower and Gift Shop and was very active with the Ladies’ Auxiliary of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital where she arranged and designed flowers. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ and was also a charter member of Murray Street Baptist Church.

 

She was preceeded in death by her husband, Alva F. Carter. She leaves to honor and cherish her memories one son, Allen Carter (Kay); two daughters, Vonceil Sittig (Rusty); and Chris Williams (Brian); grandchildren, Dylan Carter, Bryce Carter, Carter Sittig (Kim), Farrah Eckard (Doug), Nolan (Adrienne), Sasha Rodriguez (Victor), Anecia Maroney (Mark), and Courtney Geistman (Garrett) and 17 great grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be on Tuesday November 1, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday November 2, 2016 at the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 PM Wednesday at the Carter Family Cemetery near Woodville, Mississippi.

 

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Assisted Living Memory Care unit and the nurses and staff of Heart of Hospice for the loving and compassionate care shown to their beloved mother and grandmother during her illness.
