Lyndol "Lynn" Lou Reed Broussard

April 6, 1938 — February 18, 2024

Lyndol Lou Reed was born on April 6, 1938, as the first child of Esther Bernard Reed and Lubert Luke Reed of Iota, Louisiana. Lyndol was known as “Lynn” by her friends and affectionally called “Sissy” by her family.

Lynn grew up in Iota, attending Iota Elementary and graduating from Iota High School in 1956. Lynn was intelligent, an athlete, fierce competitor, and a class favorite for her fun personality and outgoing spirit. She was a beautiful young girl inside and out and an active participant and winner in several local beauty pageants, including Miss Iota and the International Rice Festival Queen. After high school graduation Lynn attended McNeese State University which began a lifelong love for anything McNeese, particularly the women’s and men’s basketball teams.

Lynn married Bradley Joseph Broussard in March 1961; together they were season ticket holders for the McNeese basketball teams their entire married life. Lynn worked for the Calcasieu Parish School Board for many years, meticulously managing the purchasing for the Parish. Lynn and Brad were blessed with three sons and made their home in Iowa, Louisiana. Lynn and Brad were very involved with 4-H and Lynn helped countless children and adolescents with 4-H projects in everything from raising livestock to public speaking. Lynn’s love for family and friends was a shining characteristic of her life. Their home was always welcoming and a haven for good times, lots of food and games, where love and laughter were guaranteed! Part of the joy of their home was the ability to have fun even when the fun was unorthodox, like preparing brownie or cookie dough to eat raw with her! Lynn loved to play cards; she was in four different Pokeno groups as well as participating in regular Booray card game gatherings. Lynn’s love of life and loyalty and commitment to those she loved made her the kind of person you wanted on your side, because if she was for you, you were assured of her support and protection. Lynn was a faithful member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Iowa, Louisiana. Her family and the world are better for having Lynn in it and we will all indeed recognize the void with her passing. Surely Lynn was greeted with the words from Matthew’s gospel, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”

Lynn is preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepmother Rita Reed Hebert, sister Roxie Christine Reed and nephews Heath, Ryan, and Jeremy Rhorer.

She is survived by her sons, Kevin Broussard and wife Jenny, Kendall Broussard, Karl Broussard, and wife Bethany. She was the beloved “Nana” to her grandchildren, Jeremy Broussard, Kaitlin Broussard Sanders, Jared Broussard, Taylor Courville, Joey Broussard, Camren Broussard, Sarah Broussard, Sam Broussard, Nicholas Broussard, Sr. Isabella Broussard, Anna Claire Broussard and six great-grandchildren, Maddox, Cameron, Rhett, Clara, Josie, and Tripp. Siblings, Kathy Reed, Copeland Reed and wife Luella, Carmen Reed Sims and husband Buck, Nancy Reed Bourgeois and husband Marty, Dean Reed, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
