Mabel Marie Miller

March 10, 1928 — February 17, 2017

On February 17, 2017, Mabel Marie Miller, 88, passed away peacefully in her home and left this world to join her late husband, Herbert J. Miller, and be with our Lord. As we lay her to rest we know they will be dancing in Heaven and smiling down upon us.

Mabel Marie Miller was born Mabel Marie Ancelet on March 10, 1928 in Crowley, LA. She was one of five children.  She fell in love and married Herbert J. Miller on February 9, 1946.  They moved to Lake Charles over 60 years ago.  Their family was raised here and their children grew up as members of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. She worked in the school cafeteria for 25 years and retired as manager in 1990.

Mabel was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her joy in life was taking care of her family.  She will always be remembered as the best Cajun cook in our family, preparing home-cooked meals for every holiday and family gathering.  Growing up, it was common knowledge that home-cooked food was prepared for all who came to the Miller home.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Miller; son, Gerald Miller; daughter, Sharon Miller and grandson, Bret Legnon. She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Alice and John Eckstrum; son, Steven Miller; four grandchildren, Troy Miller and his wife Dana, Jodi Blacketer and her husband Kevin, Amanda Miller Bryant and her husband Allen, and Sharon Miller Smith; and 9 great-grandchildren, Rylie, Raigen, Tate, Zayn, Grant, Gage, Christian, Mireya, and Kasin.

Visitation will be at 2 PM on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 4 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday at 9 AM until 10:30 AM. The funeral service and mass will be at Our Lady Queen of Heaven at 11 AM on Monday, February 20, 2017. Interment will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
