Mable Jean Gaspard Marshall, 88, passed away in Lake Charles, Louisiana on Saturday, March 7, 2026. She was born on June 10, 1937, to Charles and Viola Kershaw Marshall in Hayes, Louisiana.
Mable, also known as Jean to family members and friends, was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Growing up as a little girl on the Bayou of Hayes La, she later moved to Lake Charles, becoming self-supporting and independent at an incredibly young age later succeeding as a single mom after a marriage of ten years, raising two sons on her own. She was private person that did not seek out new friends but always welcomed them. Her favorite hobbies were family, caring and worrying about them and sometimes Bingo. She was honest, hardworking, and insisted that you never say you could do something that you could not do, your word was one of the most valuable things you could give someone.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Cornell Marshall and wife Karen Marshall, Charles Marshall, and wife Beryl Callahan: four grandchildren, Tawnya Louise Marshall Navarro, Gregory Austin Marshall, Chelsey Renee Marshall Cating and Christopher Ryan Marshall and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Irvin Trahan, grandparents Victorian and Leah Gaspard.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, 4321 Lake St. Her Cremation will be entrusted to John Funeral Home.
