Margaret Ann Maggio Ewing

Lake Charles, Louisiana

Margaret Ann Maggio Ewing, 95, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Born on October 2, 1930, in New Roads, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Raymond and Margherite Maggio.

Margaret spent her childhood in New Roads. She attended Baton Rouge High School, and later graduated from Poydras High School. She completed her undergraduate studies at LSU in 1950, and received her Masters Degree from McNeese State University. She devoted her career to education, teaching for many years and making a lasting difference in the lives of countless students. She concluded her teaching career at Barbe High School in Lake Charles in 1989 after 30 years of service.

She was a member of the Rose Club and valued the friendships she made throughout the years. More than anything, Margaret enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. Some of her happiest memories were made during trips to the family farm in Dry Creek. Those outings often included not only her own family but neighborhood children as well, and she delighted in making sure everyone felt welcome and had a wonderful time.

Margaret showed her love through caring for others. Her home was a place where no one left hungry. She found genuine joy in preparing meals, bringing people together, and making everyone feel at home. Her thoughtfulness and generous spirit were reflected in the countless everyday ways she put others before herself.

Margaret will be remembered for the warmth she extended to others, the care she showed through simple acts of kindness, and the many lives she enriched as a teacher, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her family is grateful for the years they shared with her and for the example of generosity and hospitality that she leaves behind.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Jennings Ewing, Jr. and wife, LeAnn; her daughter, Dana Staub and husband, Marc; her grandchildren, Marcus Staub, Jr. and wife, Katie, Tyler Staub and wife, Kathleen, Hunter Ewing and wife, Elise, Isabella Shearman, and Thomas Shearman IV; and her great-grandchildren, Grey Staub and Margot Ewing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings T. Ewing, Sr.; her daughter, Wenona Ewing Shearman; her five siblings; and her parents.

Her funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home, 4321 Lake Street, Lake Charles. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the start of the service.
