Margaret Harris

July 13, 1967 — April 10, 2026

Lake Charles

Margaret “Margie” Harris was born on July 13, 1967, and passed away on April 10, 2026, in a local hospital surrounded by loved ones.

Margie grew up in Lake Charles in a family of seven children. She had a spirited personality growing up, and at the age of 16 she welcomed her first child. By 17, she met and married the true love of her life, Gary. Margie and Gary shared 43 years of marriage, adding two more children to their family. They lived in several different states before settling back in Lake Charles in 2000.

Throughout their marriage, they learned the true meaning of love—work, sacrifice, growth, and always having each other’s back. Margie brought laughter to her home and to everyone around her. She never let anyone leave without saying, “I love you,” or “Be safe and call me when you make it.” Margie loved her family deeply, and becoming Mawmaw was one of her greatest joys. Spending time with her family—or sharing stories about them in the bingo hall—were among her happiest moments.

You would rarely see her without a fountain Coke or an extra sweet tea with lots of ice. She enjoyed playing Booray on many occasions and attended bingo any session she could. She will be remembered for her laughter, her friendship, and the way she made everyone feel important in her presence.

Margie will be deeply missed by her husband of 43 years, Gary Harris; her three children, Trista (Stephen) Markiewicz, Jessica (Alan) Sifford, and Josh (Amber) Harris; her beloved grandchildren, Austin, Dionta, Trevon, Wendell, Wesley, Khloe, Jett, and Boone; and her three sisters, Teresa McClelland (LeRoy), Pearl “Pam” Dupuis and Sharon Milam. She also leaves behind countless other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two nieces, one nephew, and one great-nephew.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Caitlin, Alexis, Emily, and Megan on the Third Tower ICU at LCMH for their compassion, care, and support during Mom’s final days.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 15, 2026 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Rev. Ken Sifford will officiate. Interment services follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Wednesday will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
