“The matriarch of our family”, Margaret Ann Herr Lyons, 85, passed away Friday, January 16, 2026 in a local healthcare facility following a brief illness.
Mrs. Lyons was born and raised in Lake Charles and was a graduate of Lake Charles High School where she was a Kiltie. Following graduation, she met her husband through a friend, later married and soon after began their family. They lived most of their lives in Westlake. Mrs. Lyons took great pride in taking care of her family, she was passive and patient yet stern and no nonsense when needed. She loved children and was actively involved in her children’s activities and was a Cub Scout mom for her sons. She also cared for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and for more than twenty years was affectionately known as “Momma Ann” to countless family, friends and neighbors and their children that she cared for and helped to raise. She was a lady of faith and prayer, a lifelong member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church and the church choir. Mrs. Lyons enjoyed running the roads and shopping. She also enjoyed revisiting thoughts of old Lake Charles and Westlake as well as memories of simpler times, good times and good people. She will be most remembered for her love and devotion and for always being there to take care of her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory, four sons, Paul Lyons (Theresa), Gerald “Jerry” Lyons, Darrel Lyons and Curtis Lyons (Rhonda), all of Westlake; two daughters, Christine “Tina” Lyons of Westlake and Dana Lyons Jackson (John) of DeRidder; twenty grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law, Peggy Potts of Rusk, TX. She also leaves an honorary family member, Ashleigh Ellender Conrad (Jason) of Westlake.
Those gone before her were her husband of fifty-two years, Ted Lyons, Sr.; son, Ted Lyons, Jr.; granddaughter, Barbie Armentor; grandson, Gerald “JJ” Lyons; great grandson, Maverick Bourque; parents, Augustus Rudolph Herr and Margaret Reeser Beam Herr and two brothers, AC and John Herr.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at St. John Bosco Catholic Church. Reverend Shaji Jose will officiate. Interment services will follow at Westlake Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday will be from 12:00 PM until the time of service with a rosary beginning at 1:00 PM in the church.
Pallbearers for her services will her grandsons, Harold Lyons, Jacob Lyons, TJ Oliver, James Lyons, Rayder Huffman, Tyler Ewing and Carson Armentor.
