Welsh – Margaret Mary Schlicher Bond, born in Welsh on November 8, 1961, daughter of the late Robert Edward Schlicher, Jr., and Rose Mary Fremeaux Schlicher, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at the age of 60.
Margaret attended Welsh Elementary School and St. Maria Goretti in Lake Arthur, LA. She was on the basketball team at Goretti and graduated with the class of 1979.
Margaret was a graduate of McNeese State University with a master’s +30 in education. She taught science at Roanoke Welsh Jr. High School and was awarded Teacher of the Year for her school in 1996 and 2008. She retired in 2015 after 30 influential years. A purveyor of nature and a geology enthusiast, she loved camping with her family and friends. She was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church.
Her love of football was well known, as she was Louisiana’s biggest Saints fan.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Margaret is survived by her son, James Zachary Bond (Tori); siblings, Robert E. Schlicher, III (Sharon); Clifton D. Schlicher (Laura); Virginia Judith “Judy” Ponder (Billy); Charles Louis “Cholly” Schlicher (Tammy); grandchildren, Savannah Grace Bond; Mabel Elizabeth Bond; Luca James Pizza; Harper Lee Martin.
Funeral services will be held in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa, Sunday, February 6, 2022, at 2 p.m. with Deacon Wayne Chapman, officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa. Visitation will begin in the funeral home on Sunday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m., with a rosary recited at 1:30 p.m.
