Margit Harbich Papania

"Our beloved mother Margit Papania took her journey home to God’s loving arms on June 27, 2026. Margit was the heart of our home and family."  Her faith was a guiding light in her life. She will be forever loved and missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Gabriele Harbich and George Papania, her beloved sister, Isolde Harbich and her lifelong friend, Billie Jean Roe and many close friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her sweet mother, Marie (Mitzi) Harbich; her father, Leopold (Poldi) Harbich and her husband, Joseph Merlin Papania.

Margit resided in Lake Charles for over 50 years. She loved the USA and came to this country as a young military wife. She would have loved living to see the 250-year birthday celebration of the USA.

Margit was known for attention to detail and had a kind heart. She was a sweet soul who cared deeply about people.

Margit had a lifelong thirst for learning and was interested in many topics. She was particularly interested in history, current events, fashion and had a natural sense of style. She also had a natural artistic talent.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, July 3, 2026 in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Pastor Trevor L. Kelley will officiate. Interment services will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation Friday will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
