Marie Ann Thurman Mccreedy

July 5, 1941 — April 13, 2017

 Marie Thurman McCreedy, 75, was born in Winter Haven, and grew up in Orlando, Florida. She graduated from Bishop Moore High School, attended Rollins College, and completed a range of professional courses. During the 1960s, Marie flew as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines out of Atlanta and New Orleans. She met her husband, Ed, at one of her best friends’ weddings, and they were married in the St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans in 1967. Ed and Marie lived in several cities across the nation before making their home in Lake Charles in 1973.
Marie enjoyed her time playing tennis and golf at the Lake Charles Country Club, and she was the first queen of the Krewe of Barataria. She enjoyed international travel and was active as a volunteer in the community and with her children’s schools. She served on the board for the Children’s Museum of Lake Charles and the Lake Charles Ballet Society, where she was also president. She was most recently an advisor for the Lake Area Ballet Theatre. She worked for Dr. John Caire for many years before working at Crossroads Books and Gifts.
She is survived by her two brothers, Frank Thurman and John Thurman (Karen) of Dunnellon, Fla.; four daughters, Cathy Howard (Byron) of Dallas, Texas, Margaret Benoit, Libby Richards (Guy), and Erica McCreedy of Lake Charles, La.; one son, Charles McCreedy of Baltimore, Md.; and four grandchildren, John and Abby Richards, and Mike and Sam Benoit of Lake Charles, La.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Virginia Thurman; and husband, Ed McCreedy.
Her memorial service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home on April 22, at 2 p.m. with visitation from noon–2 p.m.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and Heart of Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Diocese of Lake Charles to fund a seminarian burse for Deacon Trey Ange or to the Lake Area Ballet Theatre.
