Marion Tipton Cooper

Marion Tipton Cooper Born October 25, 1945, to Vera and Bill Tipton. She died on August 25, 2026, and went to meet her high school sweetheart Michael “Lynn” Cooper. They were married for 45 years. After being married for a year, she gave birth to Deanna Paige. Nearly three years later, they welcomed Frank Marshall. Marion was the biggest cheerleader for her kids. She was found at all of Deanna’s softball and basketball games, from the Jennings Daily News to McNeese State University. For Frank she supported every football game from the Comets to Sulphur High and was always proud to attend each theatrical performance Frank was cast in, both high school and local theater. Marion thoroughly enjoyed shrimping and fishing at Big Lake with great friends Eddie and Sandra Broussard (deceased) and their three kids. The two families became one. They enjoyed vacationing, boating and countless days visiting. During her lifetime, Marion had many titles, The Queen of Big Lake, The Old Gray Mare, and simply Mare to name a few. She enjoyed crawfish boils in Jennings hosted by her dad where her family would gather and tease about who got, “the big claws.” Marion had two sisters and one brother. Judy and Steve Naquin (deceased), Karla and Mark Carte, and Bill “Bubba” Tipton (deceased). She also had one niece and three nephews. She also spent countless weekends in Jennings at her in-laws, the Cooper family. There was always laughter, games being played and family just enjoying each other’s company. Marion also loved her ten nieces and nephews on the Cooper side. When Marion and Lynn moved to Sulphur, she worked at Medical Arts Group where she met many lifelong friends, especially Marlene Vidrine, who she cherished tremendously. They were more than friends, to Marion they were her “work family.” They even helped to plan Deanna’s wedding to her husband David Smith. She soon gained another title, the best of all, “Grammie.” Frank has three daughters— Emily Scuderi, Alexandra Guillory, and Chloe Laughlin. Deanna and David have three children—Leslie (fiancé Liam), Blaise, and Sydney. She also has13 great grandchildren. Marion’s world revolved around her children and grandchildren and all their activities. We loved her beyond measure and often lovingly referred to her as “The World’s Best Worrier.” Marion was very protective; she frequently worried about outrageous things for no real reason at all. She could become preoccupied with worry, but we really did not think the comet was going to fall on the house!! Still, she worried anyway, stating “it could.” Once Lynn passed away, she moved to DeQuincy to be near Deanna and her family. Her dementia began about 5 years ago and eventually lead her to her death. Grammie will be missed tremendously, and our lives will never be the same, but we know she is waiting for us on the other side—fully healed and extremely joyful. There were few kinder, compassionate, and loving people than Marion. She loved God and her family more than anything. As her family, we extend our sincere thanks to Heart of Hospice, especially Jill, Ashley, Paula, and Vicky. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Aug 29th, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur. The family will receive friends at Johnson Funeral Home of Sulphur on Saturday from 8:30 AM until leaving for the church. Honorary Pallbearers: Blaise Smith (Grandson), Nick Scuderi, Dale Gremillion, Troy Broussard, Travis Broussard and Paul Benton.
